17th May 2015 – Kickoff time 17:00
Both sides know there is a lot at stake for a top three finish in the Premiership. A win for Manchester United would see them leapfrog Arsenal into third place. Even though Arsenal still has a game in hand but at least it would put the pressure back on the Gunners. This will be the third meeting between the two this season, with the previous two both having been won 2-1 by the away side in the EPL and FA Cup.
Manchester United ended their three match losing streak with a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace last weekend. The goals also saw them ending their poor run of not finding the net in their last three games. However, none of their recognised strikers have scored in the last month of league action. Wayne Rooney who picked up first half knock against Palace, is expected to return. His presence is valuable considering that he has form against the Gunners having scored six goals in his last seven games against them at Old Trafford.
It should be noted that Manchester United have a good home record for the season, having recorded W14 D1 L3 numbers. Also they have only failed to score in two of their home fixtures in this season’s matches. When up against the top six, their stats is pretty impressive as they recorded a W5 D2 L2 record against the other in the top six this season. The Red Devils have suffered defeat in just one of their last eleven matches at home in all competitions against Arsenal, since Arsenal’s last league win there back in 2006. The loss in that sequence was United’s home defeat in this season’s FA Cup against the Gunners when Angel Di Maria was sent off.
For the record, United are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games (home and away) against the Gunners.
Arsenal has been in good form managing a ten match unbeaten streak of nine wins and a draw. However, their unbeaten streak came to an end last weekend when they were struck down late at the Emirates by Swansea. So now Wenger has to get his side going again as that was the second time in their last three league games that Arsenal failed to score.
The Gunners have won just three out of their last 14 away games against the others in the Premier League big six, and a massive tally of nine of those 14 have been losses for the Gunners. So it is not a surprise why they have failed to win the league title.
In that run of fourteen away games against the Big Six, the three away wins that Arsenal did take were on the only occasions that they managed to keep a clean sheet. But they have lost 82% of their last 14 away games against the Big Six when they conceded in the match. Arsenal have won their last five away games in the Premiership but only one of those wins were with a clean sheet. So if they are going to win they need to keep a clean sheet here. The players to watch for them will be Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
United do have the history in the fixture to be backed to take the three points. So go for Manchester United on Asian Handicap Level Ball not to lose here.
