Introduction:
Match of the week no doubt as Barcelona leaders of La Liga welcomes the visit of Atletico Madrid second in the standings. Not too long ago Barcelona had a double digit advantage over Atletico Madrid but in recent times, or more precisely in the last five rounds, they played three draws and dropped five points there. Atletico is in good form now and have reduced the backlog to Barcelona by five points now and it would be even more exciting IF they can get a win at the Nou Camp.
FC Barcelona
They have played a few draws in recent times but they are still unbeaten in the La Liga as well as the Champions League and to date their only defeat has come in the Cup against Espanyol. However they still managed to progress further so that defeat did not mean anything to them. They have however drawn six games in La Liga of which three were in recent times.
They first played 1-1 in the championship with Espanyol, then they were held by Getafe at the Nou Camp, and in the last round they drew with Las Palmas 1-1. They also managed to beat Eibar and Girona but they are not playing at their best so they would be a little concerned ahead of this match.
Atletico Madrid
They have ten points more then Real Madrid in the standings and they will be pleased that they managed six wins in a row in La Liga at the moment. They have won twice in Europa League, but everything is not going according to plan as they lost against Sevilla in the Cup twice and have been eliminated as a result.
But two rounds ago they managed to beat Sevilla away from home and were leading by 5-0 at one stage before the hosts pulled two goals back as it ended by 5-2. In their last match they beat Leganes by 4-0. The player who is on form is definitely striker Griezmann who scored three goals against Sevilla and four against Leganes. They will be without L.Hernandez who is out of action while Savic should start this match.
Past Meetings:
When they met earlier this season it ended in a 1-1 draw and last season it also finished in a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp.
