They won by 3-2 against Gent, which was the first win for new coach Preud'homme. He made some changes in their team after they lost in the SuperCup to Club Brugge. The likes of Fai, Djenepo and Emond started and they scored against Gent. Last weekend they kept the same winning team but this time they failed to score as it ended goalless.
Ajax Amsterdam:
They have a lot of hopes for this season and they are very determined to get something. Their aim now is to get to the group stages of the Champions League and having played two games in the competition so far they managed to win both games. Despite not easy to beat Sturm Graz they managed to beat them twice. At the beginning of the fuirst match they had some problems, but then they began to play better and recorded a 2-0 win at home. In the second leg they played much better and won by 3-1 away from home. They conceded late in the match which was also a consolation to Sturm Graz.
Coach ten Hag now makes some combinations with the team. In the first match Tadic and Blind which was brought from Manchester United, were kept on the bench, but then they were brought on in the second half. They had some problems with injuries so the likes of Veltman, Bande and Dolberg did not play for them. They did not field midfielder Ziyecha who is in good form as well experienced attacker Huntelaar could start this match now.
Past Meetings:
They have met once before two years in the group stage of the Europa League and the clash in Liege ended in a 1-1 draw.
