Introduction :
This is a friendly match between two country that played at the World Cup in Russia but neither has made a good name of themselves. Germany was eliminated in the group stage and that was really a poor result for them. Serbia also failed to get past the group stages.
In the League of Nations, Germany didn't impress as well, while Serbia was more successful although they had weaker oppositions in their group.
Germany
After Germany's worst World Cup showing in 80 years no doubt their fans are worried ahead of the qualifications for the European Championship. Germany's coach Joachim Low promised more tempo, more dynamism and more focus up front.
In the last competition the national team have already disappointed the nation, so they cannot think of failure anymore. In the last World Cup in Russia, they went as the defending Champions, but after three matches played, they returned home, failing to get past the group stage. France and the Netherlands were their rivals in the Nations League and the Germans failed to win any of their four matches with those two teams.
Germany finished the group with two home draws and two away defeats, including a heavy defeat in the Netherlands by 3-0. After the World Cup, Germany played two friendlies and managed to win both matches against the likes of Peru and Russia. This friendly will be the last before the Euro qualifications.
As for the team news, manager Low has decided to make several changes in the team. Bayern's trio of Hummels, J. Boateng and T. Muller have not been selected for this match, as well as Draxler, Cane and Stindl. He also invited three debutants in the form of M. Eggestein, Stark and Klostermann. However, one of their rising stars - Serge Gnabry, will not be fit for this game against Serbia.
Interestingly, eight of his 23-man squad are still eligible for national youth teams, including 19-year-old Kai Havertz. In additions, only four have earned 30 caps or more, including the three 2014 World Cup winners left in his squad - keeper Manuel Neuer, Matthias Ginter and Toni Kroos
Serbia
It wasn't really a surprise that Serbia failed to get past the group stage at the last World Cup in Russia. Even though they were favourites against Costa Rica but they were not against Switzerland and definitely not against Brazil.
The World Cup ended for them when they lost to the Swiss and the Brazilians. After that they turned their attention to the League of Nations and did well in it. Serbia did not lose any of the six matches played and managed to win four of them. They managed to win against weaker sides such as Lithuania and Montenegro. They also drew twice with the strongest team in the group - Romania.
Serbia finished first in the group and have a chance to reach the Nations League play-off. They would have preferred to do it through the normal qualifications but it is not going to be easy.
Their biggest threat are European champion Portugal and Ukraine, and the draw have pitted them as the away team against these two opponents. So the start is very important for them and this match with Germany will show how good they are although they are not short of problems.
As for the team news, Matic is injured and he is out of the side, Kostic, while Kolarov, Tadic and A. Mitrovic are rated doubtful so it will be interesting to see which team manager Krstajic decides to send on the pitch.
Past Meetings:
The last time the sides met was at the World Cup 2010 and Serbia surprisingly won by 1-0.
The Pick:
Considering that Serbia have problems with injuries, while Germany with its new national team and younger players in the side will want to prove a point here.
Therefore go for Germany to win by a couple of goals and give the 1 1/4 ball Asian Handicap.
