Analysis:Manchester City welcomes the visit of Sunderland to the City of Manchester Stadium for Monday Night Football and it will be interesting to see how they fare back in their home stadium after the thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in their last match.
After the weekend games they are now 6th in the standings with 22 points, similar to teams such as Portsmouth and Blackburn who are also on 22 points. Manchester City are still unbeaten at home with a 100% record and they have scored 10 goals and conceded just 2. This has been their best position in a very long time since Sven Goran Eriksson took over the side.
Sunderland on the other hand are currently placed 15th in the standings and are just hovering above the relegation zone. They come to the City of Manchester Stadium without an away win so far managing just 2 draws and 4 defeats.
Sven Goran Eriksson side have won every match at home this season and have also managed to keep four clean sheets at home against the likes of Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Derby County! It needs to be noted that whenever they kept a clean sheet in those matches they went on to win it by 1-0. And even when they went a goal down against Newcastle, they came back and won it by 3-1!
As for Sunderland, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their away games to date and have yet to win away from the Stadium of Light as well. And they are the second worse team to concede on their travels apart from bottom side Derby County.
In other games that City did not keep a clean sheet they still managed to win those games by 3-1 scores – against Newcastle and also Middlesbrough.
I will go for Manchester City to win this match likely by a 2-1 or 3-1 scoreline here.
Cheers and good luck,
