A recent six-match winless sequence in the Championship has been the final nail in Barnsley’s coffin as the Yorkshire club have now been relegated from the English second tier, following four defeats in their last six games.
Although Barnsley picked up useful points in draws with Reading and Swansea City, The Tykes had also slumped to losses against Sheffield United, Millwall, Peterborough United and Huddersfield Town, the latter being against Yorkshire rivals.
Barnsley’s recent form on home soil at Oakwell though has been encouraging as the hosts have lost just once in their last seven games whilst picking up wins against QPR, Middlesbrough and Bristol City.
However, Barnsley have won just two of the previous six meetings against Blackpool and this looks to be another tricky fixture for the hosts.
Blackpool have produced an inconsistent but ultimately satisfying campaign in their return to the Championship as the visitors have secured their second tier status for another season thanks to picking up four points in their last two matches.
A resounding 6-1 thrashing of Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road was followed by a solid point in a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road against play-off candidates, Luton Town, so the Lancashire outfit will be upbeat about their chances on Tuesday night.
The bigger picture shows Blackpool have lost just three of their last 10 matches overall and The Seasiders have also collected four wins within this period as well; however, Blackpool still have work to do on the road as they’ve won just one of their last 13 games on their travels.
