Strasbourg will play host to Champions League hopefuls Monaco on Sunday afternoon with the hosts eager to return to their home surroundings of their Stade de la Meinau where they still remain unbeaten so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign.
Strasbourg currently occupy 9th place in the French top flight table and although Liam Rosenior’s side have slipped up in recent times on the road at PSG and Saint-Etienne respectively, the hosts have won each of their last two home games on the trot.
Recent home wins against Marseille and Nantes have contributed to Strasbourg’s solid looking home record this season to date of 3-2-0 10/5 which also includes an earlier 3-1 win against Rennes, so the hosts look capable of at least holding their own here this Saturday.
In addition, Strasbourg have lost just once in their last nine games at their Stade de la Meinau, picking up six wins in the process.
Monaco sit in 3rd place in the Ligue 1 table but find themselves six points adrift of the current league leaders, PSG, ahead of this weekend’s domestic top flight action.
The French municipality club had previously produced an excellent start to this new domestic top flight season as Monaco had put together an eight-match unbeaten sequence which consisted of six wins and two draws.
Three of these previous six wins were achieved away from home against Lyon, Auxerre and Rennes, the latter two wins being against lower half placed teams, but in recent times, Monaco have stumbled to back-to-back defeats in Ligue 1.
Disappointing defeats at the hands of Nice and Angers suggest this upcoming trip to face a solid looking Strasbourg outfit in their own backyard is anything but straightforward for Adi Hütter’s side despite losing just once away from home so far this season.
Monaco have won three of their opening four away games this term, while the bigger picture shows the visitors have lost just twice in their last 14 outings on the road.
The Betting Verdict
Monaco have won the last four meetings on the trot but Strasbourg have made themselves tough to beat on home soil.
