Nantes will no doubt be eager to avenge their recent heavy 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brest back in mid-December, on Friday night when they entertain their visitors at the Stade de la Beaujoire and with a stubborn looking five-match unbeaten run under their belts.
Since that heavy loss, Nantes have re-grouped and steadied the ship somewhat by picking up useful points in draws with Lille, Monaco, Saint-Etienne and Lyon respectively, along with last weekend’s impressive 2-1 win away from home at Reims.
The bigger picture though shows Nantes have struggled for any consistency prior to recent weeks as the hosts have collected just two wins from their last 17 matches overall in Ligue 1 along with being dealt seven defeats, but an overall home record of 2-4-3 11/12 gives Nantes a chance here.
Brest occupy 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings but their recent three-match winning streak was brought to a sudden and comprehensive halt by the league leaders, PSG, as Brest were dealt a heavy 5-2 loss at home by the Parisian club.
Brest had previously racked up important wins against Lyon, Rennes and Le Havre respectively which had lifted the visitors up the Ligue 1 table to the fringes of the European spots and they face a tricky outing on Friday night when they will come up against a Nantes side eager to record back-to-back wins.
The visitors may have won their last two away games on the trot but an overall away record that stands at a disappointing 3-0-7 10/21 suggests this upcoming encounter may not be as straightforward as Brest would be hoping.
