Crystal Palace v Bournemouth
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 19th April 2025 - Kick Off 3pm

Crystal Palace

A really poor Penalty miss from Eberechi Eze midway through the first half turned the match firmly against Crystal Palace, especially after Newcastle United doubled their lead shortly after Eze's failure from the spot. The really concerning aspect of the defeat will be the five goals conceded by Crystal Palace having done the same at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

Oliver Glasner spoke about moving past this result and 'throw(ing) it in the bin', although the manager has also admitted that he needs to just help his players focus again. The defeat has left Crystal Palace in 12th place in the Premier League table and the hopes of playing in Europe for the first time will likely rest on the FA Cup and winning that trophy. The Eagles have a 5-5-6 record at Selhurst Park this season where they have scored 19 goals and conceded 23.

Crystal Palace had won 5 games in a row in all competitions, but the 1-1 draw at Southampton has sparked a downturn in form with the team winning 1 of their last 4 Premier League games and suffering consecutive heavy away defeats. Returning to Selhurst Park may give the players some confidence having won 4 in a row here.

The squad will be the same as the one that travelled to the North East, although another heavy defeat may mean changes are made to the starting XI.

Bournemouth

A battling 1-0 win over Fulham on Monday night has just turned things around for Bournemouth and they are back in command of 8th place in the Premier League table. This could be the last of the European spots offered out in the top flight as long as Crystal Palace do not win the FA Cup and Andoni Iraola will be challenging his squad to produce a strong finish to the campaign.

The Cherries are 8th in the Premier League table, but they are only ahead of Fulham and Brighton on goal difference and with six big League fixtures still to play. They have a 6-6-4 away record in the Premier League where Bournemouth have scored 32 goals and conceded 26.

Bournemouth snapped their 8 game winless run in all competitions with the success over Fulham, although that result does mean the team have picked up four points from their last couple of Premier League games. Some of the recent setbacks have been at the Vitality Stadium, but Bournemouth have proved to be more stubborn on their travels with a single loss in 11 on their travels.

Luis Sinisterra and Justin Kluivert are both edging closer to a return to the squad and will be hopeful of being involved this weekend.

Head to Head

These teams played out a goalless draw when meeting at the Vitality Stadium on Boxing Day.

Crystal Palace had won 3 in a row at Selhurst Park against Bournemouth, but that run was ended in a 0-2 defeat in December 2023.

Prediction

Before the Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday, it felt like Crystal Palace could move firmly into the European race in the top flight.

Back to back defeats at Manchester City and Newcastle United have ended that momentum that had been built up by Crystal Palace.

Oliver Glasner cannot be very happy with some of the defending produced by his team having conceded ten goals in those defeats (five in both), although the manager may feel things could have easily been so different. Crystal Palace were 0-2 up at Manchester City and looking more likely to score a third before capitulating, while they had a Penalty to make it 1-1 at St James' Park and were punished for missing by conceding almost immediately before two more goals in injury time in the first half.

With a FA Cup Semi Final coming up next weekend, Glasner will want his team to show their character by bouncing back this weekend.

They have won 4 in a row at Selhurst Park, but this is not going to be an easy game against a Bournemouth team that secured an important victory last Monday. Snapping a long winless run and producing a clean sheet will have given the squad a huge boost in confidence and Bournemouth are hoping a strong finish can earn them a place in European Football for the first time.

Bournemouth have been very effective in the final third when playing away from home having scored at least twice in 11 of their last 12 games played on their travels. However, they have also conceded twice in each of their last 3 away Premier League games and Bournemouth can certainly contribute to an entertaining fixture.

5 of the last 6 hosted by Crystal Palace have finished with at least three goals shared out and we may see the run of 8 straight fixtures between these clubs ending with two or fewer goals.

An early goal could set this fixture up to be one filled with attacking football and there has been enough shown by Crystal Palace to believe they can hurt Bournemouth. The same can be said for Andoni Iraola's team and backing this to be one of the higher scoring games of the Premier League weekend looks to be the right call, even if recent history when Crystal Palace and Bournemouth meet suggests otherwise.
