Turkish club Basaksehir return to the home surroundings of their Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium in jubilant and expectant mood having swept aside their Norwegian opponents Viking in last week’s 1st leg tie of this 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
Having registered pre-season wins against Reichenau and Fortuna in 1-0 and 4-0 wins respectively along with home and away wins in the previous round of the Conference League against Bulgarian outfit Cherno More, Basaksehir will be confident that they can finish the job here on Wednesday night.
In addition, the Turkish hosts were not in action in the domestic Super Lig over the weekend as their game with Karagumruk was postponed, thus giving Çağdaş Atan’s side a welcome break.
Viking on the other hand registered a 2-1 win away from home at Sandefjord in the Norwegian Eliteserien to maintain their position at the top of the domestic top flight table where they hold a three-point cushion over 2nd placed Bodo/Glimt.
On the European front, Viking had previously accounted for Slovenian outfit FC Koper in emphatic fashion as the Norwegians recorded a comprehensive 12-3 win on aggregate over the two legs, but they face a tall order on Wednesday night if they’re to emerge from this 2nd leg intact.
Viking last appeared in European club competition back in the 2022/23 season where they exited the Conference League following a loss to Steaua Bucharest, but recent experience has been somewhat short on the ground for Morten Jensen’s side.
