Everton

There were plenty of frustrated Everton fans voicing their feelings after the disappointing exit in the League Cup Third Round at Wolves. Some believed David Moyes should have picked a stronger team as Everton look to end a thirty year wait for silverware, although the manager will feel his team were the better at Molineux and deserved more out of the tie.

Last week was a difficult one for David Moyes with that League Cup exit coming days after Everton felt they did more than enough to deserve a point in the first Merseyside derby of the season. The defeat at Anfield dropped Everton down to 10th place in the Premier League standings, but they are back at their new home on Monday where The Toffees have a 1-1-0 record.

Everton have not won any of their last 3 games in all competitions since the September international break and they have scored just a single goal across those matches. The last fixture at the Hill Dickinson Stadium ended goalless against Aston Villa, but Everton had won the previous 2 games played here in all competitions and have now kept 3 clean sheets in front of the supporters.

Jarrad Branthwaite is still edging towards a return, but it looks likely that it will be after the upcoming international break.

West Ham United

At the time of writing, it looks like the West Ham United board will stick with Graham Potter being in charge for at least one more game. They had considered his position following the latest Premier League defeat, but conspiracy theorists will state the board have only held off so any new manager can come in during the October international break once two tough League matches are out of the way.

Graham Potter himself has to wonder if his time in charge at the London Stadium is coming to a conclusion with the fans beginning to turn on him as much as the board and owners. The Hammers are 19th in the Premier League table at the start of the weekend, but could have dropped another place if Wolves have been able to win in an earlier fixture.

West Ham United won 0-3 at the City Ground just before the September international break, but any positive feeling has been erased following defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace. Both have been at the London Stadium, while West Ham United were well beaten at Sunderland in the opening away Premier League fixture and also conceded three goals in losing a League Cup tie at Wolves.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a doubt, while Tomas Soucek continues to serve a suspension.

Head to Head

Both Premier League games between Everton and West Ham United ended in draws last season.

Everton have won 1 of their last 5 home League games against West Ham United- the visiting team have won 3 times in that run.

Prediction

If it wasn't for Jarrod Bowen, you may have serious concerns about the direction this West Ham United team are travelling.

Even with the England international, things have really moved in a negative direction since the departure of David Moyes and you have to believe the manager is going to be highly motivated to remind the visiting supporters of that fact.

He was hounded out of the club for all intents and purposes by a fanbase who believed West Ham United were being held back by Moyes and his tactics.

Two managers have come in since then and neither has been able to produce the football nor the results that the West Ham United supporters may have expected. Julen Lopetegui was let go pretty quickly and Graham Potter is under immense pressure with reports suggesting he needs two big results before the October international break to have any hope of remaining in charge.

After the last couple of defeats, West Ham United are hard to back to even earn a draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton failed to beat Aston Villa here last time out, but they must still be wondering how that happened having dominated the fixture. Previously they had wins over Brighton and Mansfield Town in the new home and there has been no real issue with moving from Goodison Park, at least not from the early results and performances.

Key players will be restored to the starting line up and Everton are likely going to have the majority of big chances in this Monday Night Football clash.

You have to respect the fact that West Ham United beat Nottingham Forest in the last away game played, but that already feels a long time ago and this is a team struggling at both ends of the field.

The home team are odds on to win this fixture and it is hard to argue with that with the expectation being that Everton will find some answers in the final third to secure the three points.

Those who like getting behind bigger prices may look at the shot on target market- West Ham United have been really poor defending corners and set pieces so the likes of Michael Keane (3.40) and Jake O'Brien (6.50) having one shot on target look huge.
