This upcoming fixture is not likely to grab any of the footballing headlines but nonetheless it’s a game of huge importance in Scottish League Two in what is a relegation battle between second from bottom Annan Athletic and basement dwellers, Edinburgh City.
Annan Athletic returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion in midweek when Wullie Gibson’s side inflicted a comprehensive 6-0 home win against Kilmarnock B U21’s in the Scottish Challenge Cup having previously stumbled to back-to-back losses at the hands of Elgin City and Dumbarton in League Two.
However, these two losses have been Annan Athletic’s only slip-ups in their last nine matches in all competitions and indeed, having collected no fewer than six wins within this period, The Galabankies will feel confident about their chances in this relegation six-pointer.
Edinburgh City find themselves cast adrift at the bottom of the Scottish fourth tier table as the visitors are nine points behind their upcoming hosts, Annan Athletic, largely due to a 15-point deduction earlier in the season.
The visitors will be keen to avoid a third defeat on the trot after coming off second-best in recent tussles with Elgin City at home and a 3-0 loss away from home at East Fife in the Scottish Challenge Cup in midweek.
There’s still a long way to go in the season but Edinburgh City still find themselves nine points adrift at the bottom of the table where they occupy the relegation play-off spot, but an away record of 5-0-1 11/6 suggests they are likely to be no pushovers here.
