Fulham
There has been genuine thought given to Sacking Marco Silva in the Fulham boardroom and that is mainly down to the fact that the manager is unlikely to remain in charge beyond this season. However, it is also the overall form produced by Fulham which will have some feeling nervy that the team are potentially going to be dragged into the bottom three at the end of the season that has some believing a change may be needed.
The defeat at Everton before the international break is really worrying considering how poorly Fulham played on the day and that has left them in 15th place in the Premier League table, but just 2 points clear of 19th placed Nottingham Forest. The side have been much better at Craven Cottage where Fulham have a 3-1-1 record in the Premier League, although there is pressure to maintain those standards.
Fulham have won 1 of their last 7 games in all competitions in normal time, while concerns are growing after 5 losses in 6 Premier League games played. They did beat Wolves 3-0 at Craven Cottage in the last fixture played here and Fulham have only lost 1 of the 7 fixtures played in this part of West London in all competitions this season.
Sasa Lukic is suspended and both Antonee Robinson and Rodrigo Muniz are set to miss out. Raul Jimenez did play for Mexico in the international break and should be ready to lead the line.
Sunderland
While there is a lot of football to play between now and May, Sunderland have shown so much through the opening three and a half months of the season that it would be a bitter disappointment if they were to be Relegated at the end of the campaign. Regis Le Bris and the players cannot think that way and they need to keep on picking up points, but the fans have to be fully of the belief that that there is enough quality to avoid an immediate drop back into the Championship.
Another big performance saw Sunderland earn a draw against League leaders Arsenal, which means they entered the international break in 4th place in the Premier League table and with 19 points secured already. The Black Cats now make the long trip down to the capital with a 2-1-2 away record in the top flight.
Sunderland are unbeaten in 4 Premier League games and have shown tremendous character to earn points in matches against Everton and Arsenal in which they trailed. The side have only lost 1 of the last 4 away Premier League games played and have beaten Nottingham Forest and Chelsea in that run.
Omar Alderete and Romaine Mundle could be part of the travelling squad this weekend.
Head to Head
Fulham and Sunderland last met in the FA Cup in 2023- the game at Craven Cottage ended in a draw, but Fulham won the Replay in the North East.
Fulham have only won 1 of the last 5 home games played against Sunderland, but that was also the last time they hosted this opponent in a League game back in April 2018.
Prediction
Eleven Premier League games have been played and these two clubs have surprised the fans, but in different ways.
For Sunderland fans, the opening results could not have gone much better.
19 points on the board puts them well on the way to the tally that will be needed to avoid Relegation and that remains the only focus, even with the team sitting in the Champions League spots in mid-November. Regis Le Bris will be well aware that challenges will come up for his newly Promoted team, but so far Sunderland have managed to face up to all of those and shown strong character to find big results.
Fulham fans will not be nearly as happy with the start made by their own team.
Marco Silva was clearly disappointed in the lack of transfer activity in the summer transfer window and some reports suggested the board had considered Sacking him during this international break. That is partly down to a contract running out, but Fulham can ill-afford to be Relegated and the form has been disappointing overall.
However, Fulham have been much stronger at Craven Cottage and that is where they are hosting this fixture on Saturday.
It is key to try and get on top of Sunderland, but the visiting team have found some big results and performances in recent away games.
This makes them dangerous and the last away Premier League game ended in a win in West London against Chelsea.
Fulham have won 4 of the last 5 home games played in all competitions, including beating Wolves most recently, but they still look short to win this game. They will have Raul Jimenez available to lead the line, but Fulham have struggled for consistency in the final third and this Sunderland team have shown the character needed to come through some sticky moments to earn positive results.
There is unlikely to be a lot between the teams, but that makes the Fulham price look very short all things considered.
They have been solid at Craven Cottage, which has to be respected, but Sunderland look strong enough to earn another positive result in West London and that is the approach recommended in this one.
