Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle will be engaged in a relegation battle at the bottom of the League one table on Saturday lunchtime and with just one point separating the two sides, it makes for a tense and nervy encounter at Vale Park.
Port Vale picked up a point in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home with Wycombe Wanderers but results overall for Darren Moore’s side have been extremely disappointing in recent weeks.
Indeed, Port Vale have managed to capture just one win in their last six matches in all competitions while also being dealt four defeats in the process - losses at the hands of Wigan Athletic, Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town, the latter being in the EFL Trophy, suggest this could be another long afternoon for Darren Moore’s side.
Plymouth Argyle were not in action in last weekend’s reduced League One action due to international call-ups but that may have been just as well as Tom Cleverley’s side had previously slumped to six defeats on the trot in all competitions.
Four of The Pilgrims’ six defeats have been in League One, suffering losses to the likes of AFC Wimbledon, Exeter City, Mansfield Town and Huddersfield Town respectively, so the west country visitors have also experienced problems of their own.
However, Plymouth have managed to collect two away wins so far this season which does outweigh Port Vale’s meagre return of just a single home win to date in this campaign and seems to give Cleverley’s side a slight edge heading into this clash.
