Their 4-0 midweek dismantling of Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League doesn’t change the main issue: Bundesliga matches unsettle them. They switch off, lose structure, and leak goals at the worst possible moments.
To their credit, the broader form table still looks strong - just one defeat in their last 19 Bundesliga games (W13, D5), that lone loss coming away at Bayern Munich.
But anyone watching them weekly knows there’s a difference between “good results” and a “trustworthy team”.
The Betting Verdict
Bayer Leverkusen are the more stable, better-coached and more consistent side right now, and their attacking flow under Hjulmand should expose Borussia Dortmund’s tendency to crack under pressure.
But BVB’s record in this fixture can’t be dismissed - they have a knack for making life difficult for Bayer Leverkusen even when form suggests otherwise.
Still, based on current momentum and reliability, there is quite good value in backing Bayer Leverkusen to win the game.
Goals should be on the cards again as usual, so based on Bayer Leverkusen’s great attack lately and Borussia Dortmund’s defensive mood swings, I would rather go with backing over 2.5 goals in this match.
