Stoke City returned to losing ways once again in last weekend’s Championship action as The Potters suffered a 1-0 defeat away from home at Watford despite claiming a 2-1 home win against Swansea City in their previous game.
Stoke City have slumped to six defeats within their last eight matches in the Championship which has resulted in Stoke City sliding down the table to 8th place ahead of these Boxing Day fixtures.
The hosts have registered wins against Charlton Athletic and aforementioned Swansea City but two of the six previous losses have also been incurred on home soil in disappointing defeats at the hands of Coventry City and Hull City as well, but nevertheless, Mark Robins’s side do possess a reasonable looking home record of 6-1-3 17/8 so far this season.
Preston NE extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to six matches last weekend when The Lilywhites drew 1-1 at home with Norwich City but although Paul Heckingbottom’s side occupy a place in the play-off pack, the visitors have managed to capture just two wins in their last eight matches overall.
Both victories were achieved on their travels with wins registered at Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United, both of whom sit in the bottom three of the Championship table, while their away record stands at an equally reasonable looking 4-4-2 14/11 so far this term.
However, Preston have found it tough going to keep clean sheets away from home in this season’s Championship campaign as the visitors have managed just two shut-outs in their 10 outings on the road this season which gives Stoke City a decent chance of a result here.
