Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt’s end of the year was bumpy, with them recording one win, two draws, and a defeat in their last four games played in December. Their most recent result was a 1-1 away draw against Hamburger SV, and they sit seven points behind the third Borussia Dortmund.
The Frankfurt club was pretty active this transfer window, signing a handful of players from various clubs. Most notable arrival is the prolific striker Younes Ebnoutalib, coming from the 2.Bundesliga team of SV Elversberg, who was the best scorer in the second division, netting 12 goals in the first 17 games for SV Elversberg.
The most consistent thing in Eintracht Frankfurt’s games in the first part of the season was the goals – there were an incredible 60 scored in their 15 games, or exactly four per match on average.
Regarding recent home performances, Eintracht Frankfurt ended 2025 unbeaten in four home matches, winning three of those games.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund starts the New Year with the same old hopes of catching Bayern Munich, but that won’t happen this year. Nine points behind is a lot, and the Bavarians have an epic season for the ages, so Borussia Dortmund will battle for the second spot, where they currently sit.
Interestingly, Borussia Dortmund has lost only once in the last 23 Bundesliga matches, and that defeat came against Bayern Munich. They finished 2025 on the back of eight straight unbeaten games, winning five of them.
Borussia Dortmund spent the winter break preparing in sunny Marbella in Spain, and they should be perfectly ready for the Bundesliga resume.
They have not signed anyone yet, and a player leaving is midfielder Pascal Gross, who has returned to Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent deal.
The Betting Verdict
Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at home and lost with that scoreline in Dortmund. These two teams faced off in the German Cup back in October, with their game ending in a draw in regular time, and Borussia Dortmund then won on penalties.
Eintracht Frankfurt are now better stocked across various positions after signing a few players. Borussia Dortmund is the same side, with no new names, and we will see whether they can continue in the same way they have so far.
This should be an open game between motivated sides, and we should see chances and goals. I wouldn’t back Borussia Dortmund, given their tendency to draw and underperform when least expected.
Instead, I suggest taking both teams to score at fair odds.
