Bournemouth

As the full time whistle blew, the Bournemouth players looked like the walking wounded with a stretched squad having given all they had, but having to settle for a 1-1 draw. Andoni Iraola has made it clear that he feels he needs some help before the January transfer window closes to just bolster the numbers after Bournemouth sold Antoine Semenyo and have been hit hard by injury.

The point earned may have felt like two dropped after Bournemouth conceded in injury time on Monday and they are still 15th in the Premier League table. The 10 point gap to the bottom three is a nice buffer, but the manager and the fans would love to see that extended as Bournemouth host this weekend at a ground where they have a 5-4-2 record.

Bournemouth were pegged back late on Monday and that means they have won 1 of the last 14 games in all competitions, while also being dumped out of the FA Cup. That sole victory was in the last Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium as Semenyo ended his Bournemouth career with the winning goal in injury time against Tottenham Hotspur. The Cherries had not won any of the previous 5 home League games and had suffered defeats to Everton and Arsenal during that run.

David Brooks, Justin Kluivert and Enes Unal are all expected to miss out and so the injury to Marcus Tavernier really hurts. Tyler Adams is another absentee.

Liverpool

The manager has clearly looked to make Liverpool much tougher to beat after a horrific run of form through the Autumn months and Arne Slot has achieved that. The next step in the transition of his new look squad is finding the right balance in the attacking area to convert more opportunities than they have been and the 0-3 win at Marseille on Wednesday evening is going to have given everyone a lift.

Inconsistency has been an issue in the Premier League and Liverpool dropped two more points against a newly promoted club last weekend in the 1-1 home draw with Burnley. Despite that, The Reds are still 4th in the Premier League table and they make a long journey to the South Coast with a 4-3-4 away record within the Division.

Liverpool are quietly unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions, but 6 of those have ended in draws, which has perhaps meant the run has been overlooked. They have drawn the last 4 Premier League games, including consecutive away League draws at Fulham and Arsenal. The Reds are unbeaten in 7 away games in all competitions and the win in Marseille means Liverpool have won 4 of those fixtures played.

Federico Chiesa is hoping to travel with the squad, but there are there long-term absentees within the building. Mo Salah was back from the African Cup of Nations during the week and will be hoping to retain his place in the starting eleven.

Head to Head

So much has changed for both Liverpool and Bournemouth since the former opened the Premier League season with a 4-2 win over this opponent at Anfield.

Liverpool have won the last 6 games played against Bournemouth in all competitions, including 3 straight wins at the Vitality Stadium.

Prediction

The midweek trip to the south of France may be a factor in this late Saturday kick off in the Premier League, but Liverpool are rightly set as favourites, despite being something of a draw specialist over the last month.

Manager Arne Slot has made a real decision to make his team harder to beat, but Liverpool have been struggling to add some composure to the football being produced in the final third.

Last weekend underlined the point as they battered Burnley for long spells in the first half, but a missed Penalty and wasteful finishing left Liverpool vulnerable to the sucker punch.

The same could be said for the draw at Craven Cottage earlier this month, but Liverpool's 0-3 win at Marseille will have given the entire squad a lift, while having Mo Salah back from the African Cup of Nations can only be a positive.

Arne Slot will want his team to be a little more ruthless if they are going to earn an important three points at the Vitality Stadium.

Liverpool have won 3 in a row here and they may be facing Bournemouth at a good time.

With key players either sold or injured, Bournemouth looked out on their feet at the end of the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Monday night and you do have to wonder if they have the energy to deal with a Liverpool team that do have options from the bench.

Manager Andoni Iraola has called for more incomings in the January transfer window to just help out, but they may not be arriving in time to make a difference on Saturday.

Bournemouth have been solid at home for much of the season, but have also lost 2 of the last 5 played here- it is hard to imagine them rolling over, but ultimately the gas tank could run out in the second half and a late Liverpool winner looks likely.
