Blackpool will be desperate to avoid a fifth defeat on the trot in all competitions when they take on fellow strugglers Northampton Town at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon with both sides keen to pull away from the relegation zone.
Three defeats in League One have prevented Blackpool from putting distance between themselves and the bottom four clubs after being handed damaging losses by the likes of Port Vale, Bradford City and Barnsley, as well as an early exit in the FA Cup at the hands of Championship club Ipswich Town.
Blackpool had previously put together a promising six-game unbeaten run which included three wins on the trot over Wigan Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United but the hosts’ morale has taken a dent in recent weeks.
Northampton Town are level on points with Blackpool but The Cobblers find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of this ‘six-pointer’ at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon after being dealt a 2-1 loss at home to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.
Kevin Nolan’s side had previously picked up creditable points in draws with high-flying Stockport County and Bolton Wanderers, both in 0-0 stalemates, but it shows Northampton Town are capable of grinding out results against the better teams in the division.
However, just one win in their last eight matches in League One suggests the visitors are unlikely to collect all three points on the road at Blackpool but The Cobblers do stand a decent chance of holding out for a point at Bloomfield Road.
