Leeds United v Wolves
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 18th April 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Leeds United

The place at Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup Semi Final will have given the Leeds United supporters a huge boost and something to look forward to before the end of the month, but manager Daniel Farke is focused on Premier League survival as the main ambition to achieve. His team played last this past weekend as the Premier League returned, and Leeds United put in a big performance to win at the home of their biggest rivals.

With West Ham United winning and Nottingham Forest earning a draw, there would have been some pressure on Leeds United ahead of the trip to Old Trafford as things have tightened up at the bottom of the Division. A strong first half ended up being the difference on the night and Leeds United are now 15th in the Premier League table, but a healthy 6 points clear of the relegation places. The side have a big opportunity to take another big step towards safety by improving the 6-5-5 record at Elland Road.

Leeds United are not only unbeaten in 5 games in all competitions ahead of this fixture, but they have won at Manchester United on Monday and picked up a first Premier League win since early February. That victory was earned against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road, but Leeds United have failed to score in 3 Premier League games here since then which has resulted in consecutive 0-1 defeats and a goalless draw with Brentford.

Joe Rodon, Daniel James and Anton Stach are all expected to miss this fixture.

Wolves

By the end of the game at the London Stadium last Friday, Wolves were well beaten but Rob Edwards will take some encouragement from the performance up until his team conceded in the 42nd minute. They had given as good as they got against a nervous host, but that goal freed up West Ham United and the inevitable relegation fast approaches for this Wolves squad.

For a short time some believed a miraculous escape may have been possible, but Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and are now 15 points from safety and with six fixtures to be completed. Relegation could be confirmed on Monday if Wolves are beaten, and the side will be travelling to Yorkshire with a 0-5-11 away record.

Wolves had been on a run of a single defeat in 6 games in all competitions and had won consecutive Premier League fixtures, but the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool ended that sequence. They showed character in fighting back from 2-0 down at Brentford to earn a 2-2 draw, but Wolves were well beaten at West Ham United last time out and have lost 3 of the last 5 away Premier League games played.

Yerson Mosquera will serve a two game suspension beginning on Saturday. Matt Doherty is hoping to travel with the squad, but Sam Johnstone is set to miss out.

Head to Head

Back in September, Leeds United found themselves 1-0 down at Molineux, but recovered to win 1-3 during Wolves' really poor start to the campaign.

Leeds United have now won 4 Premier League games in a row against Wolves, but the 2-1 win at Elland Road in August 2022 ended a run of 4 home games without a victory against this opponent.

Prediction

When supporters look back on the season in June, Leeds United fans and manager Daniel Farke may see the 1-2 win at Old Trafford as being the pivotal result in keeping this club in the top flight.

There has been little wrong with performances over the last few months, but Leeds United have struggled to find consistency in the final third. Last summer, Daniel Farke made it clear that he felt that was an area that they had failed to address properly in the market, but Noah Okafor found two solid finishes to help Leeds United to a vital three points last time out.

A 6 point gap to the bottom three looks very big with games running out, but no one associated with Leeds United will feel it is 'job done'.

They have a big FA Cup Semi Final to look forward to, but that day at Wembley Stadium will be much easier to enjoy if Leeds United can find another big result or two in upcoming Premier League games.

The fixture on Saturday feels very important with that in mind.

Leeds United have a decent record at Elland Road, but they have struggled for Premier League goals here recently. Winning on Monday will have given the entire team a lift, especially as they scored twice at West Ham United the previous weekend too, but Leeds United have not scored in 3 Premier League games at Elland Road and been beaten twice.

Losing to bottom club Wolves would be a blow and would give those below them a chance to close back in on Leeds United, but Rob Edwards will have work to do to pick his players up after the 4-0 defeat at West Ham United.

Wolves created some promising positions, but the team have lacked quality in the final third and that is backed up by the fact they have scored just 24 Premier League goals all season. Only 7 of those have come away from Molineux and Wolves have not scored in 4 of the last 5 League games played on their travels.

They did manage to fight back and earn a 2-2 draw at Brentford before the March international break and Wolves missed a Penalty in their bid to score at Crystal Palace, but in general this is a team that have not created a lot of good opportunities away from home.

After losing to Leeds United earlier this season, Wolves have now been beaten in 4 straight League games against this opponent.

You would have to favour Leeds United, but the price on the home win looks very unappealing.

They are considerably shorter than West Ham United were to beat Wolves at home last weekend and it is not as if Leeds United have put together a lot of recent wins at Elland Road.

Credit has to be given to them for showing some resilience with teams not creating a lot of chances here either, while Wolves have dug in and found a way to at least make things awkward.

In reality it would not surprise anyone if Leeds United were to use the momentum of the victory at Old Trafford to earn another three points here, but Wolves should offer some resistance.

At the current prices, it may actually be a better approach to back at least one of the teams to fail to find the net- that would have been a winner in 6 of the last 7 home Leeds United games in all competitions and the same in 5 of the last 6 away Wolves games.

There is less pressure on Leeds United than West Ham United had to deal with ahead of their own League game against Wolves, but that may still lead to a fixture in which at least one of these teams fails to trouble the scoreboard on recent form produced.
