The German Champions Bayern Munich are already into the new season with silverware in their cabinet.
Vincent Kompany's side beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup last week, with Michael Olise scoring one and setting up the other. It was a strong start from the champions, especially considering they were without Jamal Musiala.
Musiala will miss Friday's opener as Bayern Munich continue to bring him back carefully following his recent collapses in friendly matches. The club has said the incidents were linked to changes in his treatment for a neurological condition, and coach Kompany has stressed there is no reason for alarm.
There is still plenty of firepower without Musiala. Harry Kane remains the obvious danger man, fully motivated to go strong again, while Olise and Luis Díaz give Bayern plenty of pace and creativity around him.

VfB Stuttgart
VfB Stuttgart arrive with a confidence boost of their own. Sebastian Hoeness' side opened their competitive campaign with a convincing 4-0 win at Hansa Rostock in the DFB Cup last week, and new signing Dzenan Pejcinović stole the show with a hat-trick on his competitive debut. Tiago Tomás scored the other goal.
Pejcinović gives VfB Stuttgart an interesting new option up front, but the big question is whether Ermedin Demirović will be involved. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international is still a VfB Stuttgart player, but Galatasaray are pushing for his signature and an offer has already been reported. VfB Stuttgart are still planning with him, so his availability for Munich will be one to watch.
The problem for VfB Stuttgart is the opponent. They lost all four competitive meetings with Bayern Munich last season (the Supercup, twice in the Bundesliga, and in the cup), including a 4-2 league defeat at the Allianz Arena and a 3-0 loss in the DFB Cup final at the end of May. Bayern Munich had to work for that cup final win, though: VfB Stuttgart were the better side early on before Harry Kane eventually took over with a second-half hat-trick.
The Betting Verdict
Bayern Munich are deservedly strong favorites, with the current market putting them around 1.27-1.33 to win and VfB Stuttgart around 8.0-9.7.
That's a big price gap, but Bayern Munich at those odds don't offer much value on the straight win.
A bit more interesting angle is goals. VfB Stuttgart have enough attacking quality to cause problems, while Bayern should create plenty at home even without Jamal Musiala.
The recent meetings also point towards goals, with Bayern winning 4-2 and 5-0 in their last two Bundesliga meetings before the 3-0 cup final.
I'd expect VfB Stuttgart to have a go rather than simply sit back, which should give the Bavarians space to work with.
Bayern Munich should win, but I'd rather take a combo bet with goals than accept only the short home price.
