World Cup
2010-07-10 - Uruguay vs Germany
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Both these teams will have to settle for third place after they failed to make it into the final. The two sides meet in Port Elizabeth on Saturday night, with Germany going out to Spain while Uruguay losing to Netherlands prior to that.
Germany won the third-place play-off on home soil back in 2006 after a 3-1 victory over Portugal, but will have to get past a stubborn Uruguay outfit if they are going to achieve the same result this time around.
Uruguay meanwhile are the surprise package in South Africa this time around and have been impressive so far in the tournament. After topping their group they beat South Korea in the second round before breaking African hearts to knock out Ghana in the quarter-finals on penalties.
Manager Oscar Tabarez insists his team are prepared to 'fight to the death' in their last game of the competition rebutting that they will not take the third placing seriously.
But Germany before going down to Spain, were in superb form as they hammered England 4-1 in the second round before dispatching of Argentina 4-0 in the quarters.
With regards to the team news, German striker Miroslav Klose will be eager to score here as he is one goal away from equalling the all-time World Cup scoring record. If he gets on the scoresheets here then he would go level with Ronaldo at the top of the chart, the Brazilian having netted 15 goals, overtaking fellow German Gerd Muller.
But Klose is doubtful to start this match after picking up a back injury so it remains to be seen if he will be in the starting eleven. As it is now, Klose has netted four goals in the tournament so far, the same number as his opposite counterpart in striker Diego Forlan.
Both still have the chance to claim the Golden Boot award, but they are still a goal behind Spain forward David Villa and Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who will contest the final on Sunday night.
It also remains to be seen if Forlan will start as he is doubtful after being taken out in the 84th minute with a thigh injury. Forlan is hoping to recover in time and be fit for Saturday as he looks to finish with the victory that would better Uruguay's fourth-place finish in 1970, and give the country its best World Cup performance since its second title 60 years ago.
Uruguay will be boosted by the return of Luis Suarez, who was suspended for the semi-final following his controversial handball on the line, which denied Ghana in the previous round.
Meanwhile for Germany, midfielder Thomas Muller is also set to return to the side after suspension, while Joachim Low has minor doubts over Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil.
