Real Madrid
Los Blancos took a bigger battering than Leon Knights twitter account in San Sebastian at the weekend. That's a game that they would have lost under different regimes but under Mourinho, they won ... just.
It wasn't pretty, Sociedad were the better team on the whole, but Real Madrid did win it. Di Maria opened the scoring in the second half, guiding one beautifully into the top corner from 20 yards.
Tamudo got Sociedad's deserved equaliser as the Madrid defence creaked under the unrelenting onslaught, before Basque hopes were broken with Ronaldo's toe punted free kick. It might even have been deflected, I'm not sure I was quite drunk by then.
Madrid's injury list includes Canales, Kaka, Garay and Gago for the visit of Espanyol, who are usually very polite visitors. They almost always let their hosts win.
Espanyol
Espanyol were a nice winner for us at odds against at the weekend, but they made hard work of beating away strugglers Almeria 1-0, not a result or performance that gives any great confidence that they can pull off a shock at the Bernebeu.
Away from home Espanyol are always opposable, and they look even more impotent in attack with Osvaldo injured and De La Pena in his usual doubtful state.
Espanyol went down 4-0 at Villarreal a week ago, and this time they will miss Javi Marquez, Jesus Datolo and Ivan Alonso to injury. Coach Pochettino is cursing his bad fortune. There is nothing bullish about Espanyol for this one.
Head to head
At the Bernebeu in the league Madrid are W5 D1 L0 in the last 6. They usually concede against Espanyol (as they used to do vs anyone), but won this fixture 3-0 last season.
The Bet
To get a working man's price it's a straight choice here between Madrid on the -2 handicap, or Madrid to win to nil.
It's always dodgy backing Mourinho teams to beat a handicap, so I'll go with the clean sheet. This has been a ridiculous bet in recent years given Madrid's irrelevant defence, but under Mourinho they've only conceded one goal in four games so far.
This bet let us down at the weekend, but if Espanyol struggled to score at home to Almeria it's hard to see them getting anything in the Bernebeu.
