THE SITUATION
San Diego have been priced as 3.5 point favourites now that their playoff chances have been extinguished, and I think that is a gift. This is a team that shot themselves in the foot, and should no question have been looking forward to more games, and I have no doubt they will still be up for this one, with a winning record for the season on the line.
Norv Turner has been given the backing of the club following their unsuccessful season and he will want his team to repay that faith by going out on a big win to show his bosses they haven't made a bad decision. Denver, on the other hand, have a 4-11 record and just want this to be over as there is absolutely nothing to gain here. San Diego can end with a 9-7 mark if they win.
The Denver Broncos got destroyed by 21 points when they played San Diego earlier this season. Last year, here at Invesco Field, they got humiliated 32-3! So what makes anyone think they will win or stay close? San Diego's head will not have dropped that much, let me assure you. Phillip Rivers will be looking to pass Denver to death, and the absence of Champ Bailey from the Broncos line-up will hurt them and leave them even more vulnerable.
Denver will also be missing kicker Matt Prater, who is normally a help with his ability to kick 60 yards, and RB Knowshon Moreno is injured again too. Who does that leave? Tim Tebow. He's the team's leading rusher since taking over as starting QB but he is in way over his head in the NFL. Oakland only let him complete 8 passes, while Houston, who have the league's worst defence, shut him out for a full half of football. This rookie QB has no chance against a Chargers defence capable of unsettling QB's a lot more talented and experienced than him.
BETTING VERDICT
Take the Chargers to thump Denver here again. I can easily see a double digit victory here.
