PREVIEW
Cardiff of course are the league leaders with 56 points. They are a whole 26 points clear of their visitors for the day, Ipswich Town, who are 19th in the Championship and dealing with very different worries. I fancy the home side to win this match.
The h2h clearly supports Cardiff, who have beaten Ipswich in 6 of their last 8 meetings, losing just once. That loss came at Ipswich earlier this season, which of course makes this a must win game as they look to avenge that loss, so a bit of a revenge spot, but not strong.
Cardiff are also in a great bounce back spot here. You see, despite being on a 4 game winning streak in the league, and sitting top of the table, the Welsh side were still knocked out of the FA Cup by Macclesfield, going out 2-1 away. That embarrassing loss will have the team focused well here to avoid another bad result that would cause them league worries.
Cardiff's home form has been almost perfect, losing 1 match here but winning the other 12! I think the reason we're seeing 1.70 on a Cardiff win is the fact Ipswich are improved under McCarthy, and that they have actually won 3 of their last 4 away games in the league. Still, They did lose 2-0 at Leeds a few weeks ago, and their last league match, at home, saw them fail to score as they lost 3-0 to Brighton. Cardiff are better than both those opponents.
I have to say Cardiff here. The stats are overwhelmingly in their favour. Cardiff have conceded just 29 goals while Ipswich have shipped 48! While the Tractor Boys have scored just 27 goals, Cardiff have banged in 48! Massive difference in quality on both sides of the ball.
BETTING VERDICT
Ipswich might score here, but that is the best they can hope for. I've considered taking Cardiff on the AH at better odds but I feel I'll give Ipswich a bit of respect here, considering the narrow 2-1 loss to Aston Villa and the improved performances under Mick and just go with the home win.
