Relegation threatened Universitatea Cluj is coming into this match on the back of two consecutive defeats and will now face a team that they haven’t beat in seven games since they promoted back in 2007.
Luckily for Universitatea there are some teams in the drop zone that are going through some worse moments, 15th placed Concordia for example have failed to win their last eleven games. Universitatea are currently three points above the line.
The Cluj-Napoca based side will have to be more solid at the back if they’ll want to avoid a third consecutive defeat, on their previous home games Gaz Metan managed to score four times at the “Cluj Arena” against a dreadful defense.
Vaslui (6th W12 D9 L7)
After finishing on podium over the last three years, Vaslui started this season with great ambitions, but it turned out to be a disappointing campaign for them, they’ll probably miss out the European competitions in the upcoming season.
Vaslui is among the clubs that pays the highest wages in Liga 1, so the disappointment is understandable, the players that joined Vaslui before the season were quite a letdown.
Vaslui just managed to defeat fourth placed Astra Ploiesti to end a three games winless run, but despite the victory they are only sixth in the table, 21 points behind leaders Steaua.
The Betting Verdict
The situation at Universitatea Cluj is quite desperate, even if they’ll manage to stay above the line until the end of the season, they might still get relegated due to some financial issues, the club has huge debts to former players which they are not capable to pay.
Coach Ionel Ganea declared that he won’t worry about those issues, he will try to keep his squad motivated and he’s done a good job so far recording some excellent results in 2013 like the victory over Astra Ploiesti or the recent draw in Bucharest against Dinamo.
Vaslui is the better side on paper, but they’ve failed to win their last six games on the road after some poor performances. Vaslui actually lost four of those games, including the one against 16th placed CS Turnu Severin.
Universitatea Cluj is desperate for points which should make them more motivated than Vaslui, but I’m not sure they have the strength to defeat Vaslui in this one. The visitors will want to avoid the a fifth defeat on the road in seven games, so I expect both sides to play this cautiously and settle for a point in the end.
