2026-08-21 - Redcliffe Dolphins vs Parramatta Eels

A Sports Betting Pick by Stu

Redcliffe Dolphins v Parramatta Eels
Rugby League : Australia : NRL Season 2026
Friday 21st August 2026 - KO 2000 AEST

Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins have gone from expansion-club just 3 years ago to genuine premiership threat in remarkably quick time. Kristian Woolf's side has been one of the stories of 2026, and their defensive improvement over the past month has been particularly impressive. Last week's victory over Manly was the perfect example, with the Dolphins keeping the Sea Eagles scoreless at Brookvale, the first time Manly had been held to zero points at home in 33 years.

Redcliffe have a top4 spot in their sights, currently placed 4th 14-7, a win clear of Cronulla and Newcastle with a superior for/against too. They have just 3 matches left to play, after this match against the Eels they travel to face the Roosters then Titans on their home turf.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow remains the obvious headline act.

The Hammer's acceleration and ability to support through the middle make him one of the most dangerous broken-field runners in the NRL. Herbie Farnworth gives the Dolphins enormous power in the centres, while Selwyn Cobbo has been outstanding since moving to the club and provides another explosive option on the wing. Jamayne Isaako is equally important because of his finishing and goal-kicking. In a finals race where games can come down to one conversion or penalty goal, his reliability could prove invaluable.

The forward pack has also developed into a formidable unit. Thomas Flegler brings enormous aggression, Tom Gilbert provides leadership and work rate, while Max Plath has become one of the Dolphins most important players through his ability to play big minutes and disrupt opposition attacks.

Parramatta Eels

The Eels arrive in Brisbane with very little to lose, and that can make them dangerous. Parramatta's season has been disappointing, but their recent football has been considerably more competitive than their ladder position suggests. Mitchell Moses remains the key to almost everything they do. His kicking game, organisation and ability to create something from nothing make him the player most likely to disrupt the Dolphins defensive structure.

Moses will be partnered by Ronald Volkman who currently has no club for next season, while Apa Twidle has been named at fullback. Josh Addo-Carr remains one of the Eels most dangerous finishers, and if Parramatta can generate quick play-the-balls, his speed can still cause serious problems on the edges. The return of Jack de Belin is another significant boost. His experience and toughness through the middle should help Parramatta compete with a Dolphins pack that has become increasingly difficult to dominate.

The Eels have no hope of the playing post season football, placed 13th, 8-13 record but do come into this match after an amazing home victory over the Cowboys, 32-30.

Parra's biggest problem has been consistency. They have shown they can score points against quality opposition, but maintaining defensive concentration for the entire 80 minutes has been their downfall.
Parramatta therefore need to make this an ugly game. They need to slow the ruck, complete their sets and force the Dolphins to earn every metre. If they allow the game to become an open, end-to-end contest, the home side has considerably more attacking firepower.

Odds

Redcliffe start as firm favourites, $1.24 to $4.25, the line is 14.5 points and combined points 51.5

The Betting Verdict

The Dolphins return to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night with something much bigger than two competition points on the line. They have already secured their first-ever finals appearance, but suddenly find themselves in a genuine battle for a top-four finish and the valuable double chance that comes with it. Standing in their way are a Parramatta Eels side that has been written off by many but has shown enough attacking quality to make this a potentially dangerous assignment. With just three rounds remaining, the Dolphins sit fourth on 34 points and have a top-four position firmly within their control.

These teams have played 3 times previously, Redcliffe winning the last 2 of those. Combined points have been high, 68, 60 and 36 points when they last played in 2025. The Dolphins are 23-16 at Suncorp while the Eels are 14-17.

The Dolphins should win. They are at home, they are playing with tremendous confidence, and they have far more to play for in terms of ladder position. A victory would keep them inside the top four and Redcliffe fans will be hoping for a great end to the season as they build towards their first ever finals appearance. In the forwards, If Flegler, Gilbert and Plath win that contest, Katoa will have the time and space to pick apart the Eels defensive line. Once Tabuai-Fidow starts getting involved around the ruck, Parramatta could find themselves scrambling.

On the other hand, if de Belin and the Eels middle rotation can slow the game down, Moses can turn the contest into a territorial battle. That is exactly where Parramatta's best chance lies. Moses is one of the best territory managers in the competition and is capable of keeping his side within striking distance even when they aren't playing particularly well.

The Dolphins have already achieved something historic by qualifying for the finals. They can now concentrate on where they finish. Parramatta, by contrast, are playing for pride and the opportunity to spoil somebody else's party.

The Dolphins should have too much class, but I expect the Eels to hang around longer than the price suggests opening up options for +14.5 Eels but I am leaning towards this match being a high scoring encounter and we should see more than 52 points here.

Prediction: Dolphins by 10

Secondary option: Eels +14.5 $1.91 @bet365
