Basilashvili comes from Georgia and he currently occupies 81st in the ATP list. Last season he occupied the best ranking in his career when he reached 51st in the ATP list. No doubt by reaching the final he will earn a lot of points which will in turn put him closer to where he was last season. His win and loss ratio this season is 12 wins and 20 losses.
He has yet to win a single ATP title in his career although he has reached two finals. It will not be an easy task for him in his third time playing in a final as the odds are heavily against him. In the semi finals, he defeated N. Jarry after three sets. In the first set Basilashvili won by 7-5 in games. In the next set he lost 0-6 but in the decider he won by 6-1.
Mayer
After overcoming Kovalik in the semi finals, he will now aim to defend the title he won last season in Hamburg. Last season he defeated F. Mayer in the final. In the semi finals, the Argentinian was the favourite but it was not easy as he needed three sets to win the match. The match took nearly three hours to complete and in the final set it was not certain that Mayer would win.
In the first set, Mayer had even three set-points in the first set but he failed to convert it. His mistakes was usually heavily punished and Kovalik used the chances that came his way to win the first set. Then in the second set Kovalik lost his first service game and that helped Mayer to win the second set. He then managed to keep the advantage until the end of the set to equalize the result. In the third set he won it in the tie break.
