Introduction:
Two players who won their first match in Group A will now start in the first slot in the afternoon and this will be the clash between K. Anderson and K. Nishikori. Both players managed great wins as Anderson defeated Thiem, while Nishikori surprised Roger Federer in his match.
Anderson
Anderson won his debut match at the ATP Finals in London when he managed to beat Austrian D. Thiem and that has significantly improved his chances to reach the semi finals now. At the start of the match Anderson was nervous, but it did not take long for him to get into the right rhythm and it was a dream start for the South African player.
Since the middle of the first set, Anderson played almost perfectly well and Thiem had not much answers in reply to his service. They key break took occured in the fourth game of the first set when Anderson managed to take advantage of the second break point. At the same time that was the only break point that we have seen in the whole match. Still, it was enough for Anderson to win who won the second set after the tie break. In terms of the statistics it should be pointed out that Anderson's first serve was outstanding at 91%.
Nishikori
Nishikori win was much talked about since he came up against Roger Federer in his first match and even if he loses this match to Anderson, he still has a chance to come back in his last match with Dominic Thiem. Rather then talk about the many combinations, it is more important to discuss how Nishikori upstaged Federer.
At the start of the match, both players were close and there was not a single break point. Both players played well in their service games and the match went into tie break. Around middle of the 13th game Federer lost two points in a row and Nishikori then managed to turn the 6-1 advantage into 1-0 in sets.Right at the beginning of the second set, Federer made a break but he lost in the following game. Federer lost one more service game by the end of set and Nishikori went on to finish the match.
