St Mirren (9th) Away Record W2 D0 L4
Dundee United have been one of the big success stories of the SPL so far this season. Manager Craig Levein has done an exceptional job as he has done in recent seasons with the club. Despite having to sell many of its big stars Levein has still managed to keep the club in the hunt for at least a European spot. With the Old Firm in somewhat of a decline at the moment there is even talk of them maintaining a realistic title challenge.
Beaten just once in 12 league games United have also beaten Celtic 2-1 in recent weeks, the first time they have beaten them in 10 years. They also went to Celtic Park earlier in the season and got a 1-1 draw. They sit 4 points behind leaders Celtic with a game in hand. Last week they showed great fighting spirit when earning a 2-2 draw at Motherwell while finishing the game with nine men.
Boss Craig Levein was left fuming with the two red cards for his players Danny Swanson and Prince Buaben. He described the performance as a 1 out of 10 performance. However his side definitely put on a great performance to get the point at a Motherwell side who are also enjoying a fine season so far.
Competition for places has also hotted up with Jon Daly coming back in recent weeks and scoring twice of the bench and long term injuries Lee Wilkie, Francisco Sandaza and Scott Robertson all still to come back into the fold. Things are certainly looking up for Levein's men at the moment. However they will also have to do without the suspended pair of Swanson and Buaben for the visit of St Mirren.
Gus Mcpherons side lost very comfortably to Celtic last weekend. Despite the 3-1 scoreline it could have been a lot more and keeper Paul Gallagher saved a late penalty to keep the scoreline down. They have been praised at times this season for the way they have played football and for some of their results this season.
But their form has dipped badly in recent weeks. They have failed to win in their last 5 SPL outings, getting just 2 points in the process. They did managed a 3-0 win over Motherwell in the CIS Cup but its league points that will be most valuable to the Buddies at the end of the season.
Two of the sides midfielders in Andy Dorman and Stephen Mcginn have also stalled on signing new contracts as their current ones run out at the end of the season. Dorman in particular would be a loss and he may already have played his last game for the Buddies as he picked up a hamstring injury at Celtic which will see him out of action for a few weeks.
