Sunderland comes into this match desperate to end their 10 gmaes without a win and hand Wigan another defeat after going out in midweek in the FA Cup to Notts County in embarassing fashion.

Steve Bruce will be hoping to get one better over his former club with both teams eager to move away from the relegation battle beneath them. Alan Hutton who arrived from Tottenham on transfer deadline day could start this match for the Black Cats.

Hutton who is on loan from Spurs, is in line to take over at right-back with Phil Bardsley and John Mensah, the man who played in his place against Stoke on Monday night are both doubtful with hamstring injuries.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez will recall his first team players after resting a number of them during the FA Cup defeat to Notts County. New signings Victor Moses and Marcelo Moreno are set to start this match as Martinez hopes to bounce back after the defeat.

Hugo Rodallega will start after missing the midweek defeat while Charles N'Zogbia will start after coming on as a second half substitute against Notts County. Serbia international Vladimir Stojkovic will continue in goal for Wigan as Chris Kirkland misses out with a collarbone injury.
