BOSTON RED SOX
On Friday, Boston lost 16-2. They bounced straight back with a 5-4 win yesterday and I reckon while it shows the mentality of Boston, the other thing is the effect it will have on the two teams. It will boost morale for the Red Sox, while it will probably make the Jays heads drop. Why? Because Toronto had fought hard to level and take it to extra innings, only to lose to a walk-off homerun. It is hard to bounce back from that kind of defeat and Boston will be out to build on that momentum in front of the home fans.
Buchholz will pitch this evening for Boston and he is easily the better pitcher today. He is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.21ERA in his last 5 starts. Season stats read 14-5 with a 2.43ERA and that is actually the best ERA in the whole AL.
Buchholz is now 5-1 with a 2.41ERA his last 6 games against Toronto.
TORONTO BLUE JAYS
Marcum is the Blue Jay on the mound and although his last game saw him pitch very well, he was hammered the previous game, when he faced the Red Sox. He went just over 4 innings and gave up 4 home runs and 8 earned runs!!!
1-2 is his record in his last 3, but with a 6.63ERA. This is a guy worth betting against!
