Haiti will be keen to make the most of what is considered almost home advantage on Saturday night when they take on Scotland in the second game of Matchday 1 in Group C but Sebastien Migne’s side head into this opening group game on the back of a recent defeat.
A disappointing 2-1 loss to Peru in their final warm-up game consigned the Haitians to just a single win within their four international friendlies which came in the form of a resounding and somewhat unexpected 4-0 rout of New Zealand.
However, losses at the hands of Tunisia 1-0 and the aforementioned Peru result along with a 1-1 draw with Iceland has underlined Haiti’s inconsistent streak in recent internationals and they will be up against a strong and resilient Scotland outfit on Saturday night.
Scotland meanwhile have captured recent back-to-back wins in comprehensive fashion in international friendlies against Curacao and Bolivia respectively, as Steve Clarke’s side have racked up a total of eight goals in the process.
A 4-1 win over Cuaracao was followed by a resounding 4-0 rout of Bolivia which will no doubt give the Scots plenty of confidence heading into their opening game in Group C as previous losses to Japan and Ivory Coast have now been forgotten.
Scotland have picked up a total of six wins within their last nine internationals which includes earlier impressive victories during the World Cup qualifying campaign against the likes of Greece and Denmark, so Clarke’s charges will be feeling in confident mood as they prepare for this fixture at the Gillette Stadium on Saturday night.
The Betting Verdict
Haiti and Scotland have never met before in any competition but Scotland look the more likely to grab the all-important three points and outscore their opponents.
