Right, some numbers for you. In more than 2 seasons, Miami Ohio have registered a combined 3 wins, while losing 22. The wins were by less than 7 points. And now, they are a 16 point favourite? They have averaged 15.9 runs per game in over 2 years and now they're expected to win by more than that number?
Last week, they seemed to impress everyone who loves a good hype. The Florida Gators played their first game since the departure of Tim Tebow, and it clearly showed. Fumbles, poor snaps etc all led to turnovers and bad play and it seems to me that Miami Ohio is getting too much credit, although they did play their hearts out and deserve some. On the other side of the ball, the teams offense did nothing at all. Not a single touchdown, even at the end of the game. 212 total yards of offence, and they got intercepted 4 times. They ended up losing by 22 points. 16 point favs? For reals?
This is not an efficient team, not a ruthless team, not a team that will take a sniff of opportunity and grab it. They will likely make a meal of everything, and if they win it will be a hardfought nervy one. No way they can run away with it, not with an underdog the likes of Eastern Michigan.
EASTERN MICHIGAN
Ron English (see, already you want them to win) is the man running this football team (I just said football in my head in Madden's voice, hehe) This is his second season in charge and the changes he is incorporating into the team is showing progress. Against Army, who they played last week, the ran the ball effectively all game, and actually had both Alex Gillet, the quarterback and Dwayne Priest, the runningback, run the ball for over 100 yards.
285 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and Easter Michigan ended up losing the game after falling behind with only 38 seconds left. The final score was 27-31 but the display was enough to prove this is a team that will give it their all and play hard, especially when an underdog of 16 points and you've got an ATS bet on.
The team is disciplined, highlighted by the fact they were not penalised once all game last week. They will run the ball time and again, slow the clock, and play Miami very very hard all the way. If Miami do win, it won't be easy. Big chance of a backdoor cover here!
