Match Preview :

This is a match that was supposed to take place in week 1 of Serie A but was re-arranged. Cagliari has somewhat of a striking problem as was demonstrated in their last match against Chievo.

Despite Davide Ballardini starting with three strikers, Cagliari failed to take their chances against Chievo. That means they have failed to win their last two games What is worse is that their games have seen three or fewer attempts test the opposition’s goalkeeper.

Although Cagliari lack striking options, they are still six points clear of the relegation zone coming into this match with Milan. Ballardini has emphasized their strength lies in midfield which will depend on the likes of Andrea Cossu, Rui Sampaio and Albin Ekdal.

However, Coach and former Cagliari man Massimiliano Allegri has also hinted they have problems in attack themselves. Whether he is playing mind games will be seen during the match however.

Robinho and Alexandre Pato have indeed struglled to find the goals which suggests that Milan could bring in Carlos Tevez and Maxi Lopez come the January transfer window.

Last season Milan were held 0-0 until the final few minutes last season and Allegri took time to speak highly of his former club’s organisation and threat of a counter-attack posed through Cossu’s play. Allegri has asked his side to be aggressive, with more emphasis on technique and patience to pick up the three points tonight.

For the record, Milan have won the last five League meetings home and away to Cagliari and 13 of the last 17 meetings since the hosts last beat Milan in October 1998.
