PREVIEW
Detroit played Chicago on December 30th, just a week ago, and lost 3-2. You would think this is a good revenge spot, but I think Chicago will end up with another win, simply because they need it more, and are in the better spot.
The Chicago Blackhawks are 24-13-4 and have not since that win over Detroit. Their last match saw them drop to a humiliating 4-0 loss against the Colorado Avalanche and that puts them in a great bounce back spot as they are, after all, a very good side. With the extra days rest, and on home ice, that is magnified.
The Detroit Red Wings have not any rest as they were skating last night, losing 4-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goalie Jimmy Howard gave up 3 goals in the 1st period and the team are bound to be deflated after fighting back only to give up the winner late on. Howard does not have a good recent record against Chicago, going 1-4 in his last 5 against them with a 3.44GAA.
Chicago goalie Corey Crawford is 5-1 against Detroit with a 2.00GAA and can be expected to put up another good performance here. Chicago lost close games to Edmonton and Philly, by 1 goal each and then by a large margin to Colorado. They are desperate to end this 3 game skid so we can expect full concentration and effort from them.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going to go with Chicago here as I feel they will start well against fatigued Detroit. I know I'm being greedy, but I shall take them to win in regulation too.
