PREVIEW
While there is a good case for looking at the Over in this one, based on the 2 games earlier this season that finished 4-2 and 5-3 between the Hurricanes and the Jets, I'm going to consider the Under, because while those 2 highscores happened in Canada, when these two faced each other in Carolina, it ended 3-1, well under tonights total.
The reason is simple. Winnipeg struggle away from home. Winnipeg are 7-12-4 away from home and are now in Game 1 of a 7 game road trip. They're also here without their leading scorer, Evander Kane.
Carolina have seen their last 4 games go under tonight's total, losing 3 of them 2-1 while winning one 3-0. They haven't seen 5 goals go in, let alone 6 in those games, and while they have not been notching the wins, I see they have restricted opponents to 2 or less goals in their last 7 games.
With the Carolina team desperate for a win, I expect the defence to play very strong today against a Jets team that is weaker on the road.
Winnipeg have seen 9 of their last 12 matches go Under, so there is also a bit of a trend in our favour here. Their last game saw Winnipeg lose 4-3 at home, and if nothing else, they will come here looking to defend too, as shipping 4 goals in embarrassing.
Another trend one will notice when you go through Winnipeg's fixtures is the tendency to do well defensively after letting in too many goals the previous game. Almost 2/3rd of the games following ones where the Jets have allowed 4 goals have ended Under.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going to take a punt on both teams to try and stifle the other and see a final score that has no more than 5 goals.
The Pick :
Under 5.5 goals
