English League Two
2012-02-10 - Southend United vs Rotherham United
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – League Two
Friday 10th February 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs
Southend United take on Rotherham in a bid to return to winning ways when the two teams clash at Roots Hall on Friday night.
Southend United (3rd)
HOME : 7-4-3 22/13
Southend are winless in their last three League Two matches with defeats against promotion candidates Shrewsbury Town and an in-form Swindon Town, along with a draw at Plymouth Argyle.
However, as you’ll probably realise, those defeats were against two clubs in the top five positions, and you’d think a mid-table Rotherham wouldn’t possess the same threat.
The Shrimpers’ home record stands at 7-4-3 22/13, and still remain in third position while a win tonight would see them move to the top of League Two – incentive enough to provoke a reaction for the home side.
Midfielder Liam Dickinson (10 goals, 3 assists) leads the way but he has valuable support in Ryan Hall 97 goals) and Bilel Mohsni (7 goals) with Hall also contributing with an amazing 13 assists so far.
Kane Ferdinand (6 goals) and former Millwall striker Neil Harris (5 goals, 4 assists) are threats coming off the bench and defender Sean Clohessy has chipped in with 4 assists.
Rotherham United (13th)
AWAY : 4-5-5 26/28
Rotherham make the trip south searching for just their second win in six matches following defeats against Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town, Port Vale and Dagenham & Redbridge.
Rotherham's away form has not been good in recent weeks despite wins at Bradford City and Hereford who are both in the bottom end of the league, and they should struggle once again at Southend.
The Millers’ away record stands at 4-5-5 26/28, with only second from bottom club Plymouth Argyle (31 goals) conceding more on the road. The recent defeat at Dagenham emphasises their dip in form and if you look at the head-to-head previous meetings between these two sides, you’ll notice that Southend United have won the last five encounters.
Striker Lewis Grabban (12 goals, 3 assists) is their leading scorer and has assistance from Alex Revell (7 goals, 3 assists) and the two Danny’s (Harrison and Schofield) – 13 assists between them, and while Rotherham are capable of scoring goals, they concede with gusto and this again will be their undoing at Roots Hall.
The Betting Verdict :
I’m tipping Southend to bounce back with a much-needed win against a Rotherham defence who leak goals; 2-1 or 3-2 win for the home side.
The Pick :
Southend Utd 2-1 Rotherham Utd
