PREVIEW
Looks like we have a couple of Cup specialists here. Both Liverpool and Chelsea have made it to the finals of 2 Cup competitions this term. Liverpool made it to the Carling Cup final, where they managed to play poorly but still somehow beat Cardiff City, while Chelsea's other final is yet to come, in Munich, against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. 'citing!
This match will also serve as a warm-up for the Premier League meetings just a couple of days from now, but that is not as important as both teams have been poor and stuffed up their league standing. Liverpool are miles off, and could even finish below Everton, while Chelsea blew their chances of a top 4 finish with a loss to Newcastle. Make no mistake, both teams will go for it here. Liverpool, because the Carling Cup isn't enough glitter in which to roll their turd of a season, and Chelsea because they know there is a very good chance they will fail to beat Bayern in their own back yard.
Liverpool have already beaten Chelsea in their only meeting this season, at the Bridge. 2-1 that finished, but they have been poor of late, losing 1-0 to West Brom and Fulham, being held 1-1 by poor Aston Villa and allowing Blackburn to score a couple in that rather fortunate last gasp 3-2 win. The defence just isn't reliable in my opinion, not for a clean sheet. In their previous Cup final, Cardiff were allowed a goal in regular time and another in extra time before they headed to penalties with the score 2-2.
Chelsea have shown signs of being able to keep clean sheets, such as the 0-0 finish at the Emirates and the fantastic 1-0 win over Barcelona. However, this game is being played at Wembley, not a stadium they are used to playing in. Even in their most dominant display, at this ground when they tonked Tottenham, they did did concede while scoring 5 themselves.
There are some good interest bets to get on, such as Suarez to score or even Torres as he prepares to face his old club with a trophy on the line. Drogba is always a threat while Lampard to score is another option as he gets to take all the penalties and freekicks from close range. But I'm afraid it's not worth hunting about for these. I'm going vanilla now.
BETTING VERDICT
The match will be a close one, almost certainly decided by a 1 goal margin, either in regular time or extra time.
Over 90 mins these 2 teams have the capability to score on each other, and that is what I shall take.
