PREVIEW
Wolverhampton sit 6th in the Championship while Sheffield Wednesday are down in 21st. Both teams have scored 11 goals in their 7 matches so why the difference. Defence. Wednesday have shipped a whopping 16 goals already, and it's costing them points.
Speaking of shipping goals, Wolves let in a few on Tuesday. They revisited Premier League side Chelsea in the League Cup and were thrashed 6-0. The same night, Wednesday went to Southampton and were beaten 2-0. I realise one looks worse than the other, but really, there is a big difference between Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday.
Wolverhampton dominate the recent head-to-head, winning their last 4 matches against the Owls. They have not lost in 6, as the previous 2 games were draws. I don't give the Championship new boys a chance of a win here, not with the way they concede goals. In the league, Wolves have managed to score 2 goals in each of their last 3 games, all wins. Sheffield have conceded at least 2 goals in every game this season, making them the worst defence in the Championship.
I do think Sheffield could bounce back from that loss at Southampton and grab themselves a goal, but their defence may not be able to make it count. I thought about Both Teams To Score but the prices of that are 1.67 which is not worth taking.
It's hard to escape the losses Sheffield are suffering, one after another. It's a big step up going from League One to Championship and they're finding out just how difficult it is. Since upsetting Fulham 1-0 in the League Cup they have suffered 4 straight losses in the league and then got knocked out of the Cup themselves. I smell a letdown of sorts. Head's drop and belief shrinks in situations like this, and I think Wolves are better positioned to get up and brush off their loss at Chelsea and get back to the business of being promoted.
BETTING VERDICT
At even money, the home team is well worth a punt.
If you want to have a bit of fun, try taking top scorer Ebanks-Blake to score in a Wolves win. In fact, let's go with that as our official bet.
