BRENTFORD
Brentford take on bottom half club of League One Preston North End at Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon as they look to build on their impressive midweek win over play-off rivals Swindon Town and they could jump into second place if other results go their way.
Brentford prevented recent back-to-back defeats against Stevenage and Carlisle United from turning into anything more sinister when they turned over Swindon Town 2-1 on Tuesday night to re-ignite their automatic promotion charge, and no doubt they’ll be looking for more of the same this afternoon with the visit of Preston.
Brentford hold a good record at Griffin Park with overall stats of 11-6-2 31/18 and The Bees are unbeaten in their last six on home turf which includes wins over Stevenage 2-0, Scunthorpe United 1-0 and of course Swindon Town 2-1 along with draws against Leyton Orient, Bury and a resurgent Walsall outfit.
Manager Uwe Rosler will also be very impressed with his team’s eight clean sheets attained so far and will be looking to add another on Saturday afternoon.
PRESTON NE
Onto Preston North End then and they too have put together an unbeaten run of their own which has reached five matches up to this fixture. Wins over Bournemouth, Stevenage and Notts County along with points at Swindon Town and MK Dons has kept them out of trouble at the bottom of the table and they are currently ten points ahead of Oldham Athletic who occupy the last relegation place.
Preston’s recent good run of form though will be tested severely against a Brentford side gunning for automatic promotion and who also hold a solid record in their own back-yard. Whilst Preston haven’t lost many in their last few weeks on the road, they have won just twice in their last nine with an overall away record of 6-6-6 22/23 and I feel they may come unstuck against a stroner Brentford outfit this afternoon.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
Brentford got back on track with their crucial midweek win over Swindon Town which will give them a massive boost going into this match, and while Preston are good enough to pick up points against the teams around them in the bottom half of the division, they shouldn’t worry Brentford here today; I’ll take Brentford to win perhaps 2-0 or 3-1 here.
