Friday evening sees a cracker of a match as Woodlands Wellington in 5th spot welcome the visit of Hougang in 6th spot. Interestingly, both of these two teams have the identical amount of points after 3 rounds, with one win, one draw and one defeat. And this match has been dubbed as "The Noisy Derby" mainly due to the fact that both teams have passionate and fervent support of their teams.
Woodlands in their last match managed to beat Home United winning 2-0 away from home. Now they will aim for back to back wins at the expense of Hougang.
Hougang however, have faced tough opposition in their last three games, losing to Albirex Niigata, who are the leaders at the moment, drawn away at DPMM in Brunei and won their away game at Young Lions.
But looking at their past meetings with Wellington, Hougang, also known as The Cheetahs, have a good record for the past two years; whereby they managed two wins, a draw and a defeat facing Wellington, also known as The Rams. Wellington have been known to occupy the bottom of the S League in past seasons but this season, they are a different team altogether, with the addition of Khaled Hamdaoui, Yazid Yasin, Rosman Sulaiman, Taufiq Rahmat and Atsushi Shimono.
However, the Cheetahs will be all too familiar with the likes of Shariff Abdul Samat who is now playing for Wellington. Shariff, a former Hougang club captain, will be looking to get the better of his former team here.
Nevertheless, Hougang does have a good backline, when you consider that Syaqir Sulaiman, who often goes in and join the attacks during set-pieces, where he has been the strengths for the Cheetahs this season. Other then that Fadhil Salim has also been playing tremendously well this season between the posts. He has saved three penalties in their past two games. Despite that, Hougang have conceded four goals so far in three games so they will be looking to score as well in this match.
Hougang will be going for maximum points after their defeat to Albirex in their last match. Despite trying and trying they failed to score against Albirex.
