BETTING PREVIEW
Liverpool are nowhere near being involved in Europe or the title, but this is still a massive must win game. The Merseyside derby is always a belter, and the Reds need to get 3 points if they are to have a chance of climbing above their city rivals, who are 5 points ahead of them.
Of course, Liverpool will have to do it without Suarez, whose 10 game ban for munching on an opponent means his season is done. The loss did not stop them last week, when they ended a run of 3 straight draws with a 6-0 hammering of Newcastle away from home. It might not be as easy against an Everton side that has conceded just 2 goals in their last 4 games.
Of course, with this being a derby game, a lot of trends go out the window. Both sides will want all 3 points and that will almost certainly result in goals. The reverse ended 2-2 after Everton fought back from a 2-0 HT deficit.
I notice Everton have struggled a bit on the road in recent games. Their last 6 away from home have produced no wins, but 3 losses. That kind of form does not inspire me to back them here. Their last 2 away games have seen them fail to even score, 0-0 at Arsenal and going down 1-0 at Sunderland
THE BETTING VERDICT
Tough to pick a side even though I favour Liverpool over Everton, but after the big win the price on that in what will be a tough game is a bit short.
I prefer to look at the goalscorer market.
With Suarez out, I feel Sturridge is a good big price in the anytime scorer markets. He grabbed a brace in 7 minutes during the 2nd half at Newcastle so why not back him to keep it up here.
