It’s off to Atlanta next for this upcoming quarter-final clash in the FIFA Club World Cup between PSG and Bayern Munich in an all-European tie at the Mercedes Benz Stadium with both teams eager to assert their dominance and claim bragging rights.
Newly crowned Champions League winners PSG also finished top of Group B on goal difference over runners-up Botafogo and 3rd placed Atletico Madrid in what turned out to be a three-horse race for the top two places in the group, with MLS outfit Seattle Sounders earning the wooden spoon.
PSG backed up their recent comprehensive 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League with group wins in the Club World Cup against Atletico Madrid 4-0 and Seattle Sounders 2-0, although the Paris club did slip to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Botafogo.
Nevertheless, Luis Enrique’s side have now collected an impressive eight wins in their last nine games in all competitions and the French outfit will be tough to beat in this upcoming encounter as well.
Onto Bayern Munich and the German club finished runners-up in Group C a point behind the eventual group winners Benfica having also picked up two wins and losing once; wins against Auckland City 1-0 and Boca Juniors 2-1 outweighed their narrow 1-0 loss to Benfica in the group stage.
Bayern immediately bounced back from defeat to Benfica though in the round of last 16 with a 4-2 victory over Brazilian club Flamengo and their attentions will now turn to trying to overhaul the current Champions League title-holders on Saturday lunchtime.
The German side have also produced a string of impressive results overall in recent times as Vincent Kompany’s side have suffered just the single defeat within their last 11 matches in all competitions which consist of collecting seven wins, three draws and the single defeat.
The Betting Verdict
Bayern Munich have held the upper hand over PSG in recent exchanges, winning each of the last four meetings on the trot but PSG now look a very different prospect under Luis Enrique.
