2005-10-07 - Ross County vs Airdrie
A Sports Betting Pick by Beanie
CountyThe highlanders find themselves top of the league, although quite how I'll never know given that they've won just 4 of their 8 games, although with the other 4 being draws, they are unbeaten so far this season.
Still, 9 goals in 8 games is hardly the form of a table topping team, and if they are to continue that way their defence will have to maintain some superb form so far which has seen County concede just 4 times this season.
At home their strikeforce of McGarry, Nuclowski and Burke have had a little more joy, putting 3 past Clyde on the opening day and 2 past Stranraer, but against more organised back lines such as Hamilton goals have been a lot harder to come by.
At the moment there are no apparent problems, as the home defence is strong enough to offset their shortcomings up front, allowing County to grind out results week after week, but as the season wears on they might find the need to create a lot more in the attacking third of the field.
Airdrie
Airdrie have had an up and down season, starting with 3 straight defeats, then putting together 3 draws and 2 victories, before losing back to back home games in recent weeks to Clyde and St Mirren.
They already look to be destined for a mid table position this season, and their inconsistency will be their undoing in the end. As such its difficult to get a grasp of just what kind of form they are on.
However, they too don't have an outstanding goalscoring threat. Brian Prunty is perhaps their most potent striker, but with just two goals this season the former Celtic man isn't about to fire Airdrie to any sort of high table finish.
The Stats
County have scored 9 goals in 8 games, Airdrie just 8 in 8.
County conceded just 4...Airdrie 9.
Thats an average of about 1.50 goals per County game, and just over 2 per Airdrie game, giving an average between the two of 1.75 approx goals per game.
County's home results have been: 3:1, 0:0, 2:1, 1:0, 1:1.
Airdrie away: 0:1, 1:1, 2:0, 1:1.
7 unders out of 10 there.
And their meeting earlier this season ended 1:0 to County.
The Game
Airdrie will probably view a draw tomorrow night as a good result, and as such won't set out too adventurously. County likewise will adopt a fairly cautious approach, one that has worked well for them this season. If they take the lead they have shown enough defensive capabilities to suggest that they will be able to hold on to it, while as stated, Airdrie won't push for a lead, rather preferring to take any half chances or counter attacks as the game goes on at 0:0.
So with all this, its remarkable to see Under 2.75 @ 1.91, especially when most bookies price the Under 2.50 at 1.80.
The Pick :
A Low Scoring Affair
