2007-12-30 - Seattle Seahawks at Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta cannot wait to draw a line under this season and move onto their search for a new coach and make a few changes in the front office. They have a 3-12 record for the season and I dont think any of their fans would have entered 2007 believing the problems they have had were possible. With nothing to play for, and a real lack of confidence, this could be a tough match for them this week.
The Falcons are 2-5 at home this season. They have also lost 6 straight games in a row and have conceded between 27-38 points in each of those losses. However, they scored their highest points total of the season last week when they put up 27 points against Arizona. The problem is they had failed to score more than 16 points in their previous 5 games. Atlanta have lost 3 straight at home and have allowed 31 + points in each of those losses.
Lawyer Milloy may miss out for the Falcons here and his loss will be yet another obstacle for their defence to overcome.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle bring their 10-5 record to Atlanta and have already sown up the number 3 seed in the NFC meaning they will entertain either Washington, Minnesota or New Orleans next week. They are coming into this game looking for some momentum as they go into the post season.
The Seahawks are only 3-4 on the road this season. They had a disappointing defeat at Carolina 2 weeks ago in a shock result which also snapped their 2 game winning run on the road. They have also won 6 of their last 7 games overall. The offense is putting up points, Seattle scoring at least 24 points in 6 of their last 7, and the defence has restricted opponents to less than 13 points in each of the last 2 weeks.
Mike Holmgren has announced that he will not rest players as they look to keep winning games. Shawn Alexander is available to play and Deion Branch should be in for a few snaps.
Statistics
Seattle have won 4 in a row against the Falcons in the series.
Atlanta are 7-8 against the spread this season and the Seahawks are 9-6. At home Atlanta are 2-5 against the spread while Seattle are 3-4 on the road.
Atlanta won their match against the spread last week which snapped a 5 game losing run. Seattle have won 6 of their last 7 against the spread.
PREDICTION
Seattle will be travelling across the country for this match, but I dont see that being too much of a problem if they play their starters as Holmgren has suggested.
Atlanta look like a team without a leader, and until a head coach is brought in, they will struggle.
A lot of changes will be happening in the offseason in Atlanta and I dont see them playing Seattle tough enough to win.
The Pick :
