Genoa comes into this match still in with a fighting chance of qualifying for the UEFA Cup and if results go their way they could find themselves closer to playing European football as well as closing the gap on Sampdoria and Milan. For the visitors Empoli on the other hand, a win for them here would bring them out of the relegation zone.

They do however have a good record against Genoa and have not lost to them in the last six years. But their biggest problem is still their attack as they have problem scoring goals. Since Christmas they have scored only 11 goals in 17 games. Goals are hard to come by especially since they have lost the services of Nicola Pozzi who is their top scorer to injuries.

The visitors cause has not been helped by the absence of defender Andrea Raggi who has been their pillar of strength at the back. They are also without the services of midfielder Claudio Marchisio and striker Luca Saudati who are out on suspension.
