2008-04-27 - Portsmouth F.C vs Blackburn Rovers
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Portsmouth welcomes the visit of Blackburn to Fratton Park for this Super Sunday clash and even though Portsmouth has a chance of qualifying through to the UEFA Cup should they beat Cardiff in the Final of the FA Cup next month, they would prefer to qualify through their league standings.
Portsmouth’s chances are much brighter than Blackburn after they slipped to ninth in the table when they drew with Manchester United 1-11 at Ewood Park. Portsmouth despite going down to Manchester City 3-1 last weekend still heads into this match as slight favourites.
Harry Redknapp’s side has managed 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats from their last eight matches and their 3 defeats all came away from home. Their home form in their last four home games has been exceptional as they have managed 3 wins and a draw. They beaten sides such as Birmingham City (4-2), Aston Villa as well as Wigan (2-0) and drew with Newcastle (0-0).
As for the team news, Nwanku Kanu looks likely to be on the bench as Milan Baros is likely to start upfront alongside Jermain Defoe who is cup tie for the FA Cup. Hermann Hreidarsson is suspended after his red card against Manchester City, so Lauren is likely to switch to left back for this match. Striker David Nugent and midfielder Pedro Mendes are nursing minor bruises but is likely to be on the bench here. Defender Noe Pamarot will not make the squad despite resuming training after 10 weeks out with a knee injury.
As for Blackburn they are likely to stick with the same side that played to a 1-1 draw with United last week as they are no injuries after that match. Matt Derbyshire who is facing an operation will not join the side until the season is over.
Portsmouth will not want to lose this match as if they do it will be their first back to back defeats in four months. While for Blackburn they could only managed to win once against teams in the top half when they beat Manchester City at home.
Going on Portsmouth home form where they are unbeaten since the start of 2008 managing five wins and two draws, they will have the edge here and the fact they have not conceded in the past three games at Fratton Park also gives them the edge here.
Take Portsmouth to win here and give the 1/4 ball away.
Cheers and good luck,
