Analysis:Inter Milan will be hoping to wrap up the Serie A title when they face A.C Milan at the San Siro while Milan will be aiming to keep the pressure on Fiorentina who is currently occupying the fourth Champions League spot.
Between both sides, Inter are the form team at the moment having won four games in a row now to be within touching distance of retaining the title they won last season. Following Roma’s draw with Livorno, Inter have a massive six points lead over Roma and there are just three games to go.
As for A.C Milan their hopes of reaching the Champions League not only depends on themselves but also on how well Fiorentina performs. Their defeat to Roma, Sampdoria, Atalanta and Juventus in the space of a month didn’t help their cause at all. But they managed wins over Reggina and Livorno which means they now trail Fiorentina by just two points. Milan will be hoping that the midweek’s UEFA Cup defeat on penalties to Rangers will have taken its toll on Fiorentina and they would drop points.
Milan could keep an unchanged lineup that defeated Livorno 4-1 courtesy of a Pippo Inzaghi hat-trick. They do have a long injury list that includes the likes of Ronaldo, Paolo Maldini, Emerson, Marcos Cafu, Nelson Dida and Serginho.
Inter Milan on the other hand are expected to make changes. Mancini is expected to go for experience here rather than youth. Hernan Crespo expected to be recalled alongside Julio Cruz. Cruz will go against the team that he played for in the 2004-2005 season. Mario Balotelli is also expected to be dropped here. Marco Materazzi will come into the side at the expense of Nicolas Burdisso. Inter will not have the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Figo, Ivan Cordoba, Walter Samuel and Olivier Dacourt who are out for the rest of the season.
Inter have had the upperhand in derby matches as they have won four of the last five after going three years without enjoying success against Milan. The last two matches have finished 2-1, with Inter coming from behind on both occasions. A.C Milan have enjoyed these meetings far more than their neighbours since 2000, managing two Champions League wins, as well as a record 6-0 success back in 2001. Last season Inter Milan won 4-3 but this time around A.C Milan with players such as Kaka and Inzaghi, will be eager to get the better of Inter Milan.
