Spain were the team at the start that I fancied to go all the way and win these finals, but decided not to back them and decided to stay with single bets. Now I wish I had backed them, as I’ve been very impressed so far with what I’ve seen and still think that this could be their year.
Game one saw them beat Russia 4-1 but I don’t think this was a 4-1 and this game the Spanish showed that if you give them a chance with Villa and Torres up front they will put it away and set out their stall for the rest of the tournament. They then went on to beat Sweden 2-1 and make the knockout stages again it was Torres and Villa who got the goals but for me the Spanish were not at their best and it was a last minute winner that took them through.
I did not see the last game in this group for the Spanish as they beat Greece 2-1 after going a goal down and this a weaker team that usual with star strikers Villa and Torres not playing. So now we move on to knockout football and the question will be asked about Spain and that is how will they do as normally they do poor when it comes to this part of the tournaments.
Italy
The world champions were in the group of death and it was always going to hard to get out of, but I thought they had enough about them to win this group but it didn’t work out that way and while they did make it to the knockout stages they had to do it the hard way.
The first game for Italy saw them lose heavily 3-0 to the Dutch but for me this game was not a 3-0 game and it was great counter attacking football that saw the Dutch win by this margin and Italy could count themselves unlucky for me to lose this game by such a margin. Game two I missed but did see the highlights and to be honest Italy were lacklustre for me but thanks to a great save by Buffon saw them draw 1-1 with Romania and keep the chances of making the quarter finals alive. In the final game they had to beat France and for me France were very poor and while Italy dissevered their 2-0 win to make it though, they were not playing a good team.
So what now for World Champions Italy and will it be the usual that teams like Italy and Germany just find away to make it through and make sure that one of the old guard win another major tournament.
Verdict
This is a very hard game to call and I think I’ve changed by mind twice when writing this so I guess if you're a fan of the no bet then this game could be one to miss. As for me I think that this game could go either way and may well go to Pens. So I’m going for a bet here that I’ve never done before as I think this will be a close game but I do think that both teams have goals in them.
So the bet for me will be both teams to score in 90 Mins which is priced @ 1.80 and seems a decent bet for me.
